If you are looking to carve out a career in the golf industry, then our golf management programmes could be just the thing to set you on course to success.
- Work placements are available from the start of the course. We have a particularly good relationship with Chateau Elan in Atlanta for those wishing to gain experience overseas.
- Coaching is provided by PGA professional and golf lecturer, Alan Fleming.
- Available to Honours level for the first time from autumn 2009.
- Students are encouraged to take part in weekly UHI competitions.
- Students are encouraged to represent the UHI in national competitions, including the British Universities Sports Association tournament.
- UHI team clothing is supplied.
- Each student member of the UHI Golf Team will be provided with an individual fitness programme, as well as access to local gym facilities.
Here at The North Highland College we were the first to provide a golf management degree, and since then we have continued to invest heavily in this niche market to ensure that our students get the best possible start within the industry. Student experience is built through classroom based learning alongside top class professional placements (home or overseas), fairway practice, and event work. The most exciting aspect is the fourth year of the Honours degree - this final year is now available online; there is no need to attend The NHC-Dornoch on a full time basis to achieve this award.
Teaching staff
The college staff who teach our golf related subjects are recruited from a select pool with a broad range of academic and practical experience within the field.
Golfing competitions
All of our golfing students are encouraged to play in weekly competitions. The UHI Golf Club is a Scottish Golf Union affiliated club, and as such, we hold handicap-counting competitions. Handicaps can be issued to students if their handicaps have lapsed or if they have never previously been issued.
In addition to our main club tournaments there are many other fun formats designed to encourage student golfers of all abilities to integrate with each other. These events run every Wednesday afternoon throughout the academic year. We are often hosted at Golspie Golf Club - a James Braid designed course which has recently undergone a major renovation programme. It is now one of the best courses in the Highlands.

Golf Management and Golf Facility Management
Managers who have a keen interest and understanding of the golf industry and its facilities are seen as essential if clubs are to compete as businesses in the modern marketplace. Students participating in our Golf Management and Golf Facilities Management courses learn about all aspects of the worldwide golfing industry as well as broader management issues such as administration, IT, communications, and human resources.
