    A full time course based The North Highland College equestrian centre in Halkirk, on the outskirts of Thurso.


    Course description

    Who can join?

    If you hold the BHS Stage II or equivalent (such as Pony Club B Test) or you have gained the National Certificate Equestrian Skills and Business Studies, you are welcome to apply. Mature students are also welcome and will be considered on individual merit.

    How do I attend?

    This is full time course is held over one academic year, commencing late August/early September.

    What will I study?

    The course enables our students to work with a range of horses to a high standard, with the study of business management subjects an important element of the teaching programme.

    Based at the Equestrian Centre in Achavrole, Halkirk, its excellent facilities are designed to enhance your horse skills. There are many opportunities to take part in local competitions and in addition students will be prepared for and encouraged to sit BHS exams.

    Rotational weekend work from November – March is a necessary requirement of the course. This would normally be one week in four.

    What could I do next?

    You could progress to the full-time Higher National Diploma course, or choose from a range of job opportunities in the horse and leisure industries both at home and abroad.
