Young Highland Chef Competition
The winner of the Young Highland Chef Of The Year 2011 was announced at the final cook-off in Dornoch on 24th October.
The prestigious competition was judged by a panel of A-list chefs led by culinary legend Albert Roux OBE and including Andrew Fairlie, Steven Doherty, Derek Johnstone, Glen Watson, Brian Maule. Last year's winner Fiona Murray was also amongst them.
The competition was sponsored by the North Highland Initiative, North Highland Products, Thermomix, Skibo Castle, Munro Fruit Merchants Ltd, Links House at Royal Dornoch, Forth Wines, Keltic Seafare, Tain Pottery, Budding genius, Ardgay Game, Chef Roux, and Burghfield House / North Highland College.
First prize went to Euan Walker of the New Drumossie Hotel (Inverness), who received a life changing opportunity to work at Albert Roux's world famous 'La Gavroche' in Mayfair in London for a week plus a £500 prize. The runner up was David Nicol from the Red Skye Restaurant in Skye, who was awarded a week's work experience at the RAC club London with accommodation and £250. Third prize of £100 went to Gordie Mackay. All the finalist received a trophy and a signed cook book by Albert Roux.
The chefs were asked to prepare a three course dinner for two people using a mystery basket of ingredients.
The final which took place at Burghfield House Training Hotel which is part of North Highland College in Dornoch.
